We at The Drama Place understand the need for Drama In Education. Not only is it a way to aid expression and boost confidence on a personal level, it also can support other subject areas like Literacy, Geography, Design and Technology, History and RE amongst others.
We offer various programs to suit all Key Stages, and work well with teachers to make sure our course content is supportive to lessons planned. This is very much a collaborative venture, and we work together to strive for the same learning outcomes.
Key Stage 1
At Key Stage 1, we aim to use drama to support early literacy programs and personal early development. Drama is arguably one of the most powerful tools to support speaking and listening in early stage development. We use storytelling, plays and role play exercises to encourage confidence and learning skills. Popular books and characters are bought to life and developed to engage the children. This can all be specifically catered to meet the teacher and schools needs and their input is encouraged.
Key Stage 2
At Key Stage 2 we want to continue to use drama to aid development but also push it further when working with literacy and a range of other subjects. It can be used as a method of exploration or to enhance understanding.Further development of language and communication skills are also an essential element of drama work, as are encouraging independent work, positive group interaction, negotiation skills, maintaining appropriate responses, further developing speaking and listening skills and facilitating creative expression.
we will use drama games as they teach a variety of social skills and will implicitly build confidence and develop concentration and cognitive ability. We can look at creating our own plays and performing them which can cross subjects like literacy and history and geography.
Key Stage 3
In Key Stage 3 drama, we are using it as a way to be expressive and aid our transition development from child to teenager. Students will be given opportunities to explore, evaluate and challenge ideas and assumptions constructively. They must demonstrate creative thinking by making fresh connections between ideas and in different contexts. We work collaboratively on scripted and unscripted pieces and then we evaluate their own presentations and those of others in the class. Role play is a lot more advanced and we look at current topical and social issues such as bullying etc. We can use plays, script work, improvisation and other dramatic techniques to further enhance development.
Key Stage 4
At Key Stage 4 we are here to support students with their GCSE Drama work. We work closely with the teacher to offer classes and projects that support the schools chosen exam board syllabus. We look at Improvisations, Monologues and Duologues and group pieces. We can cross reference this subject with English by looking at script work and analysis. Again Drama is used to further develop confidence skills and social awareness.
Key Stage 5
At Key Stage 5 we can work with students following Btec, AS and ALevel subjects. We work in groups to explore different practioners, acting techniques and play texts. We can focus our workshops on improvisations or more specific topics like aiding monologues an duologues. We work with the teaching Staff to create a workshop which will most enhance the groups learning experience. We can also offer advice and support on UCAS applications, Drama School preparation and Interview Techniques.
Please send all inquiries to Mail@thedramaplace for all workshops in the September 2011acadmeic school year. We are very open to discuss ideas and create a program specific for your school needs.
