FAQs
Does my child need any previous experience?
Not at all. The Drama Place welcomes complete beginners as well as experienced performers. Every child starts from a different place, so lessons are tailored to their confidence, experience and individual goals.
What age do you teach?
We work with children and young people from age 6 upwards. Younger students will usually benefit from shorter, energetic sessions, while older students may choose longer lessons depending on their goals and LAMDA level.
How do online lessons work?
Lessons take place live online via Zoom. Once you've booked your lesson block, you'll receive a link to use for your weekly sessions. Your child simply needs a laptop or tablet, a reliable internet connection and a quiet space where they feel comfortable speaking and performing.
What happens during a lesson?
No two students are the same, so no two lessons are exactly the same either!
Depending on your child's pathway, sessions may include acting and character work, voice and speech, public speaking, communication skills, confidence-building exercises, script work, performance technique and preparation for LAMDA examinations.
Most importantly, lessons should be fun, encouraging and something your child looks forward to each week.
Does my child have to take a LAMDA exam?
Absolutely not.
LAMDA provides a wonderful structure and recognised qualifications, but exams don't have to be the goal for every child. Some students come to The Drama Place simply to develop confidence, communication or performance skills.
We'll find the pathway that's right for your child.
How long will it take before my child is ready for a LAMDA exam?
There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer.
Children progress at different speeds depending on their age, grade, experience and how much practice they do between lessons. I will only recommend entering an examination when I believe your child is properly prepared and, importantly, feels confident and ready.
Can LAMDA exams be taken online?
Yes. Many LAMDA examinations can be taken online, meaning students can learn with The Drama Place and work towards their qualifications wherever they are in the world.
Do LAMDA qualifications carry UCAS points?
At the higher levels, yes. LAMDA's regulated Level 3 qualifications — Grades 6, 7 and 8 — can carry UCAS points, making them particularly valuable for older students preparing for university applications.
My child is very shy. Will these lessons suit them?
Yes — and they don't need to arrive confident.
Some children love performing from day one; others need time before they'll comfortably speak or perform in front of someone new.
Lessons are supportive and personalised, allowing children to develop at their own pace without pressure. Confidence isn't a requirement for joining The Drama Place — it's something we can build together.
Is The Drama Place only for children who want to become actors?
Definitely not!
Drama develops skills that reach far beyond the stage. LAMDA itself highlights communication and self-confidence among the life skills its examinations are designed to develop.
Your child might dream of becoming an actor — or they might want to put their hand up more confidently in class, give a presentation without panicking, prepare for an interview or simply become more comfortable expressing themselves.
Performance is one pathway. Confidence is for everyone.
What happens if my child needs additional support?
Please let me know when you book your Discovery Session. Every child learns differently, and I want lessons to feel positive, accessible and supportive. We can talk together about your child's learning style and anything that may help them get the most from their sessions.
Still have a question?
Every child's journey is different. Book a free Discovery Session and we can chat about your child, what you'd like them to gain from lessons and whether The Drama Place feels like the right fit.
